Directions:  Playing Tic-Tac-Toe with your Alzheimer and special needs seniors can be fun and easy to learn. With Alzheimer patients who suffer from a more advanced stage of the disease, use the Tic-Tac-Toe board with the X and O playing pieces, these pieces will be more familiar to them. With most special needs seniors you can make any type of hand-crafted Tic-Tac-Toe playing pieces. I made Ladybugs and Bumblebees for my seniors.

Step One: First, place your Tic-Tac-Toe board on a table in front of your senior. Then place randomly the small Tic-Tac-Toe cards that are numbered from 1-9 on top of each of the nine squares inside your Tic-Tac-Toe board. Step Two: Take your large Tic-Tac-Toe cards that are numbered from 1-9, and hold 3 or 4 of them upside down in your hand. Next, have your seniors pick only one of the large Tic-Tac-Toe cards. Whatever number they have chosen will have a corresponding number on the Tic-Tac-Toe board. So place their Tic-Tac-Toe playing piece on the corresponding number they've chosen on the board.  Step Three:  Now, have the senior's opponent choose a number from the large Tic-Tac-Toe playing cards. After they've chosen their number, place their playing piece where that number is located on the Tic-Tac-Toe board.  Remove the small corresponding card with that number from the board. Continue playing the game until someone gets three in a row.......Tic-Tac-Toe.

   A Tic-Tac-Toe Board, 9 Playing Pieces,

Small Tic-Tac-Toe cards (1-9). Large Tic-Tac-Toe cards (1-9).

Tic-Tac-toe Board

Use an 8"x8" round piece of wood.

Draw with a ruler 2 vertical and 2 horizontal lines crossing each other to make the Tic-Tac-Toe squares. Now paint the lines with red acrylic paint, using tape to make your lines straight. Write with a Sharpie the words Tic-Tac-Toe, across the top of the board.

Tic-Tac-Toe Playing Pieces:

Use acrylic paints to paint your design onto a large black stone. Use small googly eyes glued on with tacky glue. Paint a coat of Mod Podge over the whole stone after the paint has dried.
